The B-I-B-L-E, Yes, That's the Book for Me

One simple children's song with this verse reminds us the Holy Bible is an important book. The world's best selling book is the Bible. More copies have been printed of the Bible than any other book, ever. This up-to-date yet ancient writing has been translated into more languages than any other of the world's pieces of literature. Its words have been imprinted upon many people. The Bible has earned itself a closer look. Consider a few of the ways the Bible made its mark in history. While the Bible states itself to be the Word of God, it is plain to see that it has human writers. About 40 different people penned its pages. Those men came from all walks of life. Some were royalty, fishermen, shepherds, physicians, priests, farmers and ranchers. It took about 1,500 years to write this book from its first pages to the last word. No other book having such diverse writers and covering such a vast time period still makes sense from beginning to end as this one. There are more ancient manuscript copies of the Bible than any ancient book in history. No other book from antiquity even comes close to having such numerous ancient copies or copies so close to the original date of writing. First among books ever to be printed, European and then American presses early on eagerly copied its pages. It continues to be a sought out book to both printers and readers. Portions of the Bible have been read from space. Apollo 8 astronauts read directly from its first page. Once it was the crew's Christmas present to NASA. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” was heard being broadcast from space. Those United States astronauts chose the Genesis creation account, graciously reading it for all the people on the Earth. Archaeologists have the Bible to thank as well. In the early days of modern archaeological study, relics continued to be unearthed which were previously referred to in the Bible. When the connection between those discoveries and the Bible's written history was recognized, archaeologists began to look to the Bible first in their attempts to find new artifacts. The Bible has proved itself and benefited those looking to its archaeological accuracy. Once it was said that when the spade in Israel and the area turns up a piece of earth, the Bible has something to say of it. This old book is of timely interest today. Intriguing subjects are in the pages of this sacred book. International spies, assassination attempts, revealed dynasty secrets, two-faced traitors, engaging battles, heart-pounding races, ultra wealthy and powerful personalities, courageous underdog victories, world-changing events, new inventions, love stories, ferocious wild beasts, fishing adventures, naval escapades, geographical insights, world travel, and much more eye-catching drama is all in this one book Something for everyone is within its cover. Many have chosen this book to be their favorite. Perhaps we should concur with the little child's song as it concludes: I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.
